Project objectives
The Academy for Education Development of USA has won award from USAID on Mining sector assessment of Mongolia. The AED approached Intec Company to provide support with conducting assessment in Mongolia.
USAID/Mongolia, in accordance with the Strategic Objective Agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the United States of America to Accelerate and Broaden Sustainable Private Sector-led Economic Growth, is bringing in an assessment team to assess the public dialogue surrounding the mining sector and its development in Mongolia. The assessment is to see if there is a way to help ensure that the stakeholders in the dialogue – whether they be mining companies, citizen’s groups or government ministries and officials – view each other with trust and recognize the common interests that all parties have in common. A dialogue conducted under such terms will help ensure that Mongolia and its citizens derive the economic benefits they deserve from the country’s mineral wealth.
The assessment team will be meeting with all relevant stakeholders, including government officials and members of parliament, mining company representatives, the media, and citizen’s groups. Their purpose will be to assess the sources of potential conflict, the various interests of different stakeholders, and ultimately to make recommendations for possible USAID activities to help improve the quality of public debate about mining.
